A Letter from the President:

I can not believe it is now October already! Fall is upon us and we all enjoy the nice cool weather it brings to sit outside and this year just wave to our friends! I have enjoyed seeing the conversations that have begun to take place about Halloween on Nextdoor.  I am happy to see that I am not the only one that is excited to still let my kids trick-or-treat! I will elaborate below, but first a few house keeping information provided below.

My kids love trick-or-treating each year in our neighborhood! It is a delight to see the kids running around together going door to door.  It is sad that it will not be the same as normal.  Therefore, I will start by saying if you do not feel comfortable about anyone coming up to your door or driveway then simply do not participate.  If you would like to bring some cheer to the neighborhood kids then we welcome your participation.

I believe there is a conversation going on on Nextdoor about everyone that is going to participate in trick-or-treating.  Everyone in HTNA is able to do what they feel is safest and these are just recommendations, guidelines, and ideas for this year.

1. Mask up- Incorporate with costumes to help encourage your kid to use.
2. Social distance best as possible we are outside as well.
3. Set up tables at the end of the driveway or sidewalk to keep congestion off of porches and to prevent people from touching doorbells.
4. Pre-package grab and go candy bags and if you want extra precaution, add a sanitation station.

These are just a few safe COVID-style Halloween suggestions for more details and specifics please see the professionals below.

If you need anything please do not hesitate to reach out to us.  Please send me an email below if there is a story you would like us to highlight in our next newsletter.  Please have a happy and safe Halloween season!

Thanks,

Clinton Ball

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2020

This year's National Night Out is being held on Tuesday October 6th, 2020 from 6pm to 8pm and will be quite different.  Please read below for additional information.

Due to the COVID 19 virus situation we request that no one hold block parties this year.  Be safe and practice good social distancing.

Since we are not recommending block parties or social gatherings we are recommending that each registered block celebrate NNO by:

  • Each household on the street holding their own individual/family style picnic on the lawn of their residence and/or

  • Decorate your yard--some of the suggestions you may want to use are

    • displaying homemade National Night Out or crime prevention posters/signs promoting support for car or home burglary prevention, or

    • For a more patriotic theme break out the US/Texas flags along with your red/white/and blue ribbons

  • It can also be as simple as just relaxing on your lawn and turning on your porch light as a symbol of solidarity against crime, maybe even by switching out your porch light to a blue bulb

The evening of National Night Out, a police officer will slowly drive through the blocks that are registered to show support for our community.  The officer may stop to take an occasional picture but will be maintaining proper social distancing precautions.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to give the Crime Prevention Unit a call at 972-744-4955.

Richardson Police Non-Emergency
# 972-744-4801

There have been many complaints in the neighborhood about speeding cars and Large 18-wheeler trucks driving through the neighborhood. We have created a 4 step approach to help our neighborhood and the Police Department better enforce this no truck policy though our neighborhood streets. The HTNA Board and a few neighbors are currently in discussions with the city and the chief of police to help better correct these issues.

1. Get the name of the truck or vehicle type to report.

2. If possible, safely get the license plate of the truck or vehicle speeding. (Even if you are not able to get these first two items, please call and report the speeding vehicles or the truck infraction as the police department does keep a record of all calls.)

3. IMMEDIATELY call the Richardson Police Non-Emergency # 972-744-4801 so the time will be noted on their records in an effort to establish a pattern as to the time of day these things are happening.

4. Call every time!

Also, for those who live on Summit, we need to report the loud drag racing that occurs on Centennial each evening. If everyone will help by following these 4 easy steps every time we will be able to keep our neighborhood the quiet streets we all desire.
