HTNA 4th Of July Update

The HTNA July 4th Parade was great fun! Scooters, trikes, and bikes were decorated in red, white, and blue and the kids led a fun parade through Terrace Park. We enjoyed slices of watermelon and celebrated Independence Day with our neighbors!

The Sinz Family

"My family moved to Richardson 38 years ago.  We have all loved living here.  One son graduated from Berkner High and another from Hillcrest High in Dallas since he was entering his senior year when we moved.
Visitors to our house have said what beautiful trees and such a quiet neighborhood.  We have completely redone the kitchen and a bathroom.  There were beautiful hardwood floors throughout.
Richardson is a great place to live and as a real estate person told me recently Richardson is now central in the North Texas area....Gay Sinz"

Gay and Alan have been an integral part of the Highland Terrace neighborhood and the Board.  Gay has served on the board for more than 8 years.  She was a part of the board team that helped keep the Brick Row on Greenville from becoming a myriad of apartments.  Gay has a wonderful personality and is very invested in the people around her.  She spends most of her time with her loving family.
Thank you for serving as Secretary for HTNA all these years!

Htna Sign Toppers

We are very excited about all the enthusiasm for the sign toppers in our neighborhood. We hope this provides our neighborhood with the opportunity to work together and beautify the place we call home.  The Board has spoken with the City of Richardson and several other Neighborhood Associations.  We have approximately 134 street signs in our neighborhood plus or minus a handful.  The cost of each sign topper depends on the color and logo which we will need to design and get approved by the city.  The best estimate right now is $120 per sign (brackets are included in this cost.) 134 x $120= $16,080.   HTNA is designated as a non-profit with the State of Texas; therefore, there will be no tax on the purchase.  HTNA Board has decided on a 3-point approach to help accomplish this goal, but it will take all of us to work together in order to achieve the desired outcome.

1.     We need to set up Block Captains.

2.    We need to determine how many neighbors on each street are willing to donate to the cause.

3.    We need to increase membership.

As of today, we have 6 individuals that have already said they would be willing to become Block Captains.  The responsibilities of a Block Captain would be limited and are as follows:

·         Reach out to the neighborhood on their block to ask for donations and collect money for the sign toppers.

·     Reach out to their neighbors to see if they are willing to donate above their $15 yearly dues to get the sign toppers going- any donations would be kept in a separate fund designated specifically for sign toppers.

·       Act as a contact for neighbors to come to with any issues to bring before the Board and possibly be taken before the City Council.

·       Deliver Newsletters (once a year) door-to-door on your block -HTNA would provide a t-shirt for identity purposes- (at this time the Newsletter is only sent out electronically due to a limited number of people to deliver to 1,884 homes.)

·       Welcome new individuals and families on your block when they move into the neighborhood.

If you would like to become a block captain, we have made a designated sign up on our website at https://www.htna.org/volunteer.

Over the past week the Richardson Police Department has received at least 2 reports of vacant homes being burglarized.  These homes were either being remodeled to be sold or currently listed "For Sale".  The suspect(s) are forcing entry into the houses and stealing kitchen appliances (dishwashers, stoves, microwaves, etc...) and other miscellaneous items.
Please continue to keep an extra eye on houses that are vacant and/or listed for sale in your area.
It is recommended that you continue to use your house alarm system (even if vacant).
If you observe any unusual activity around these houses please notify the Richardson Police Department immediately.

UPDATE

Highland Terrace raised $100 to donate to the Officer David Sherrard Memorial Highway Fund! Thank you to all who donated.
The latest problem in our neighborhood has been the theft of Amazon packages and deliveries from porches.  Try to bring the package in as quickly as possible.  Another solution to the problem could be to have things delivered to a remote location such as amazon boxes.  There is a situation of people coming into unlocked houses so please keep all doors locked even when everyone is in the house.
Unlocked Cars are still the biggest problem in the area.
Please let Richardson police know if there is a break in.  They keep information
of other issues around town.
Any tip can help!
