A Letter from the President:

As we trudge along through this β€œnew normal,” I cannot believe summer is ending and we are preparing for school to begin and reopen. I want to encourage each of you to look for the the good in others and to stay positive through this hard time, as one of our neighbors has encouraged us to do through their yard signs:

Yard Signs as featured on our Instagram page!

I would like to also congratulate our Communication Chair Erin Johnston on their new addition a sweet baby boy to their family!

I also would like to remind everyone that Rahim Shaikh our Vice President and Don Simmons have been keeping up with the City Council meetings and giving us a summary of what is discussed. We have been posting them on our blog page β€œThe Post” here. We will create one post for each month and add to it each week following the meetings. ->

HTNA is also excited to share that we helped the Rutledge’s sponsor a new Little Free Library in our neighborhood in the 400 block of Terrace Dr. and LaSalle. We hope you take advantage of this when you take a walk around the neighborhood. The other advantage is that you do not have to go into the public library building!

Lastly, we have been informed by many neighbors that there are people leaving their animals litter bags in yards, in truck beds, and on curbs. Please be respectful of your neighbor and pick up and carry the trash back to your own home. Thank you for the help in this matter.

If you need anything please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Thanks,

Clinton Ball

On Friday of last week, Dr. Stone released the Richardson ISD Back to School Blueprint for families and stakeholders to review. Click here to read the Blueprint that provides comprehensive information about RISD's back to school plans, health and safety precautions, and options for all enrolled families.  You can also watch Dr. Stone’s weekly video message by clicking here.  It discusses the blueprint, instructional choices for families and next steps.

Families and stakeholders are strongly encouraged to review the Blueprint and FAQs as well as watch the video to help answer any other questions concerning the 2020-2021 school year in RISD.

Richardson ISD will begin the school year on August 19 with virtual instruction for all students. In-person instruction is currently expected to begin September 8 for families who choose the in-person option.

The district will continue to monitor and adapt to ongoing changes in guidance and requirements from the state of Texas and public health authorities.

If we can answer any questions or be of further assistance, please let us know.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2020

This year's registration for National Night Out 2020 is now open.  Go to Richardsonpolice.net to register or access the registration form at the following link  http://www.richardsonpolice.net/services/community-engagement/national-night-out/nno-block-party-registration (Please register your block by September 15th)

This year's National Night Out is being held on Tuesday October 6th, 2020 from 6pm to 8pm and will be quite different.  Please read below for additional information.

Due to the COVID 19 virus situation we request that no one hold block parties this year.  Be safe and practice good social distancing.

Since we are not recommending block parties or social gatherings we are recommending that each registered block celebrate NNO by:

  • Each household on the street holding their own individual/family style picnic on the lawn of their residence and/or

  • Decorate your yard--some of the suggestions you may want to use are

    • displaying homemade National Night Out or crime prevention posters/signs promoting support for car or home burglary prevention, or

    • For a more patriotic theme break out the US/Texas flags along with your red/white/and blue ribbons

  • It can also be as simple as just relaxing on your lawn and turning on your porch light as a symbol of solidarity against crime, maybe even by switching out your porch light to a blue bulb

The evening of National Night Out, a police officer will slowly drive through the blocks that are registered to show support for our community.  The officer may stop to take an occasional picture but will be maintaining proper social distancing precautions.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to give the Crime Prevention Unit a call at 972-744-4955.

There have been many complaints in the neighborhood about speeding cars and Large 18-wheeler trucks driving through the neighborhood. We have created a 4 step approach to help our neighborhood and the Police Department better enforce this no truck policy though our neighborhood streets. The HTNA Board and a few neighbors are currently in discussions with the city and the chief of police to help better correct these issues.

1.

Get the name of the truck or vehicle type to report.

2.

If possible, safely get the license plate of the truck or vehicle speeding.

Even if you are not able to get these first two items, please call and report the speeding vehicles or the truck infraction as the police department does keep a record of all calls.

3.

IMMEDIATELY call the Richardson Police Non-Emergency # 972-744-4801 so the time will be noted on their records in an effort to establish a pattern as to the time of day these things are happening.

4.

Call every time!

Also, for those who live on Summit, we need to report the loud drag racing that occurs on Centennial each evening. If everyone will help by following these 4 easy steps every time we will be able to keep our neighborhood the quiet streets we all desire.
