The HTNA board is aware of different safety concerns of the neighborhood in regards to traffic. We have heard from neighbors, and observed ourselves, an increase in traffic driving through the neighborhood, delivery trucks using our streets as thoroughfares, and speeding vehicles specifically during the morning rush hour time frame. We recently met with Richardson Police Chief Gary Tittle, and the director of the city’s transportation department. We conveyed to them that our primary concern is for the safety of our neighborhood children walking to and from school. We asked for increased patrol during the windows of time of 7-8am and 3-4pm. It is important to us as a board that we act proactively in advocating for the children. RPD has agreed to an increase of patrol.
The Chief and director of transportation did convey that often the ones speeding in the neighborhoods are the neighbors themselves. If that’s you, we kindly ask you to slow down. If it’s someone you know, you can let them know about the increased presence of RPD. If you see a specific car speeding at a consistent time, you can report the time and description to the non-emergency line and that will help our officers keep Highland Terrace safe for everyone.
